Much Ado About Nothing
by William Shakespeare

A brief hiatus in the war leads Don Pedro and his men to recoup at a grand estate in the country. Amidst the festivities we meet confirmed bachelor, Benedick, who swears he will never love, and Beatrice who is too difficult to woo. When the young Claudio and Hero fall in love, they conspire to get Benedick and Beatrice to wed as well.
Shakespeare’s ‘merry war’ of the sexes is a celebration of the complexities of new love, old love, being in and out of love and oh… how we love. This story is told by the creative team who took sell-out seasons of POST to the Lock-up, Newcastle, Romeo and Juliet to Tulloch Wines, and The Importance of Being Earnest to delighted audiences at Albion Farm.
Come and join us at Maddie’s of Bolwarra for ‘Bard in the Yard’. Pack a picnic, bring some champs and gather your friends and be treated to one of Shakespeare’s most popular and engaging plays under the stars. Concession and group booking discounts apply making this the perfect night out for your work Christmas party!
Doors open at 7pm for picnickers for a show start of 8pm from 9-18 November. To purchase tickets, click GET TICKETS below. For any questions, please email our production team at

A New Home for Upstage!

We are thrilled to share this exciting new chapter with our Upstage community. Upstage will move it's classes to St. Mary's Anglican Hall in Church Street, Maitland as of Term 4. This is a wonderful opportunity for Upstage to work more closely with the Maitland community, and we are delighted to have our classes and rehearsals in a convenient location (just opposite Pender Place!) that is warm in winter and cool in summer.

It was with some regret that we said goodbye to our pop-up theatre space in High Street, but that's the nature of 'pop-ups' and we will continue to pop up in beautiful and unique locations for our performances across the Hunter, as well as providing the same excellent quality of learning experiences for our students.

Drop off and pick up - Parents are invited to enter the property via the return drive behind the church (SLOWLY PLEASE!) to the hall at the rear of the property. This circular drive will bring vehicles back to re-enter Church Street.

Please check class times below for any changes to your regular class. Can't wait to see you all there!

Drama Calmer - Yoga for Mental Health
A New Class for Teens

Upstage celebrates the importance of young people having a safe space to be creative and to be themselves. We also acknowledge that being a teenager AND the parent of a teenager can be a tough gig. This is why we have partnered with Yoga Brave, to create a class for parents and young people to come together in a gentle environment aimed at lowering stress and anxiety.

What do you need to know?

Classes will be held on Monday evenings, 6.00 -7.00pm
Incorporating meditation and yoga techniques (and some silly drama stuff to make us laugh), classes will be taught by Fyona Coulton.
Young people 14 and up are invited to join in and bring along a parent, free.
Register your interest by emailing

Until then, keep calm, breathe.

Class Change!
Screen Acting Moving to Holiday Workshops

We have loved being fortunate enough to have talented teachers wanting to work with us and share their specialised knowledge of the industry. Our gorgeous Beck Raward has been teaching the Screen Acting class but now is swapping her Film Acting hat for motherhood.

However, if Screen Acting was the thing that got you out of bed, don't despair! Beck will be back to run holiday intensives. Keep an eye out for information on our Summer Holiday Creative Arts Camp - on our website and Facebook.

We send Beck and her husband Rob huge amounts of Upstage love and the very best wishes for her new role in parenting.
